One of the most well-known and beloved figures in Buddhism, Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva symbolizes the universal human potential for great compassion. Her name literally mean, "She Who Listens to the Sounds of the World."

Monk bios

DM Heng Lai

Ordained 1976. Born in Washington, DM Lai's spiritual journey began after having a profound experience sailing on the ocean (link). In 1969, he found Master Hua. He serves as the manager of Snow Mountain Monastery and President of the Sangha and Laity Training Programs.

DM Jin Xiao

Ordained 2013. Born in Vietnam, Jin Xiao Shi studied Electrical Engineering in college. Based in Blessing, Prosperity & Longevity Monastery, he travels monasteries around the world serving as the main cantor for Dharma Assemblies.

DM Jin Chuan

Ordained 2013. Born in United States, Jin Chuan Shi grew up in the the Silicon Valley. He serves as an assistant professor and chaplain in DRBU. Based in Berkeley Buddhist Monastery, he works with Jin Wei Shi on establishing Redwood Vihara.

DM Jin Wei

Ordained 2017. Born in Poland, Jin Wei Shi studied law before going to the City of Ten Thousand Buddha to become a monk. Jin Wei Shi supports Berkeley Buddhist Monastery and the establishing of Redwood Vihara.

DM Heng Liang

Ordained 1982. DM Liang serves on the DRBA and DRBU Boards. At DRBU, she is the Dean of Students and Registrar. She is also the COO of SLTP and is currently based in the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas.

DM Heng Jiao

Ordained 2000. Born in Taiwan, DM Jiao currently serves on the DRBA and DRBU Boards. She is currently based in the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas.

DM Heng Jie

Ordained 2009. DM Jie began training as a novice nun at an early age and received a B.A. from DRBU. She currently resides in CTTB.

DM Jin Ren

Ordained 2009. Born in Vietnam.

DM Jin Di

Ordained 2017. Born in China, Jin Di Shi met the Dharma while in France. Later she went to CTTB to leave home and now has returned to help establish DRBA in France.

Dharma Realm Buddhist University is an accredited university dedicated to liberal education in the broad Buddhist tradition.


Together we immerse ourselves in the wisdom of classical texts through study and practice, that activates not only our inherent wisdom to see things clearly, but also our heart of compassion to be of service to others.


DRBU offers a B.A. in Liberal Arts based on the Great Books of the East and West as well as an M.A. in Buddhist Classics.

Sangha and Laity Training Programs


The Sangha and Laity Training Programs are training programs for monastics and laity. The purpose of the programs is to provide a solid foundation in Buddhist studies and practice.


Those interested in joining SLTP are recommended to first come to a retreat or Dharma session at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas or other DRBA monastery.
